Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central) has backed the indefinite strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The senator, who posted this on his Facebook wall, however urged the executive to dialogue with the association in order to meet their demands.

He also called for state of emergency to be declared in the tertiary institutions. “First, I wholeheartedly support ASUU strike,” the senator said.

“Secondly, I call on the executive to dialogue and meet up the demands of the Union.

“Thirdly, the need to declare emergency on the state of public universities, polytechnic and colleges of education is now.” ASUU officially announced the commencement of indefinite strike on Monday after both parties were unable to meet at cross roads over the controversial 2009 agreement.
