The party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, today, June 12, affirmed that the party had accepted Saraki as the President of the Senate, and they were ready to live with the reality.

The Edo-born Oyegun, who spoke to state house correspondents at the Defence House, Abuja, after a meeting of members of the 2015 transition committee with President Muhammadu Buhari, during a visit to the president to present their report. Oyegun is a member of the committee.

The APC had earlier vowed to sanction Saraki and his counterpart in the house of representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, after they emerged as leaders of both the senate and house of representatives respectively.

When asked by a Punch reporter if  Saraki’s position would be accepted by the party, Oyegun said, “Of course! He has been duly elected by his colleagues. We have a reality and we must live with it.”
He revealed that the party chieftains were already in consultations with Saraki, but they wouldn’t want to publicise it. Speaking further about the crisis that engulfed the party before the National Assembly elections.

The chairman said: “It is not the first or second time we have passed through this kind of scenario and we came out strong. This may not even be the last time, we come out every time stronger and more determined.”

He, however, subtly supported senators who are heading to court over Saraki’s victory saying they were within their rights.
