Posted by: Crown Mix« on: July 08, 2015, 04:20:42 PM »The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered that a former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, and his son, who were arraigned in the court for alleged money laundering on Wednesday, be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which dragged them before the court.
The accused are to be remanded in custody till Friday when their bail application will be heard following an application by the ex-governor’s counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, pleading for time to familiarise with the charges. —————————————————————————————————————————————–Former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, his son, Abdulaziz, and others are currently being arraigned for money laundering charges before Justice Evoh Chukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja. Nyako and his son are contending against 37 counts of money laundering. The accused have pleaded not guilty to 17 of the charges. —————————————————————————————————————————————– The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, and a former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako (retd), and his son, Abdulazeez. Investigations revealed that operatives of the commission arrested Nyako, his son and Ohakim on Tuesday evening. An operative of the commission, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the two governors and Abdulazeez were being held by the commission for corruption related offences. The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of the two former governors and Nyako’s son. He said Nyako, his son and Ohakim were billed to appear in court on Wednesday. When asked whether the two governors and Abdulazee were in custody of the commission, he said “yes, they are due in court today.” Our correspondent gathered that the trio might be arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
