The students under the umbrella of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) registered their discontent with the continued closure of schools due to the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) strike. The protesting student converged at the Ministry of Education headquarters at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja. The National President of ASUP, Comrade Anderson Ezeibe, had earlier stated that calling off the strike rests solely on the government doing the needful. According to the aggrieved students, the continued closure of schools further reiterates the insensitivity of the leadership to education and the plight of students in the country. However, the Student Union President of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Adekunle Kehinde Fatai also known as KennieSp has called the on Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to address the current situation on ground. He said, “We are not leaving until Adamu addresses us, we are here with our Mat and Mattress, if he isn’t capable of holding that position he should let us know. If he is not ready to open our polytechnics he should leave that office,” KennieSP stated. We want the government to find a way of addressing this and stop putting our generation at risk.” The protesting students called on the Federal government to sign and hand over all the entitlements demanded by the ASUP so as not to jeopardize their studies. We are here to resist the closure of our schools due to lack of the federal government to meet up with demands of lecturers. Man shall not live by bread alone. These teachers should be made and the federal government should end this impunity.” CLICK ON ASUP LATEST NEWS FOR MORE UPDATE
