Politics / Ooni of Ife reveals what Tinubu told Traditional Rulers
« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on July 26, 2024, 11:29:14 AM »

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged Nigerians not contented with his administration to explore the option of voting him out in the 2027 presidential election.

According to the monarch, President Tinubu said this on Thursday when he held an emergency meeting with Traditional Rulers led by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III amid looming hardship protests planned for August 1-10, 2024.

Ooni of Ife noted that Tinubu called for dialogue while reiterating his resolve to end the country’s economic hardship.

“The President has said, ‘Any leader that you don’t like, wait (until 2027) and vote him out.’ He is open to dialogue. We know that Nigeria faces many challenges. But are we going to destroy our nation by ourselves? Is that what we are all after?

“It is very difficult to build, but it is the easiest to destroy. We are all stakeholders in this country and are stronger as a nation than individually,” the Ooni of Ife said.

Earlier, DAILY POST recalled that Tinubu said Nigeria’s economy is on the path of recovery and gave assurance of better days.

This comes amid rising dissatisfaction among Nigerians on the state of the economy as core and food inflation stood at 34.19 percent and 40.87 percent, respectively.

It was a tragic moment when a Form Four student at Nketa High School in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, reportedly ended her life after facing rejection from her boyfriend after she got pregnant.

According to reports, she was laid to rest in a sombre ceremony attended by friends, family, and community members on Monday, July 22.

Reports revealed further that the student, who had been dating an Upper-six student at the same school, reportedly sought support from her boyfriend after discovering she was pregnant.

The boyfriend’s refusal to accept responsibility for the pregnancy caused her significant emotional distress, contributing to her decision to take her life.

On July 12, the girl visited her boyfriend’s home but was later found by her aunt and brought back to their residence. It is believed that she had attempted to discuss the situation with…..her boyfriend again, only to be met with continued rejection. This further intensified her despair.

Despite her aunt’s efforts to support her, the student tragically ended her life.

Assistant Inspector, Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident, though initial police reports did not mention the pregnancy.

According to the police, the girl had left home under the guise of attending extra lessons…..and was later seen entering her boyfriend’s residence.

Concerned about her absence, her aunt discovered her hang!ng from a guava tree in their yard. Emergency services arrived promptly, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Popular singer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has urged Nigerian youths not to back down on the planned nationwide protests against bad governance.

Charly Boy said those in power should embrace scrutiny and protest, not suppress it, if they are confident in their integrity.

He made this known in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, while dismissing a report asking Lagos residents to ignore the protest as the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s government is already doing enough for them.

However, Charly Boy countered the advice, saying they resort to silencing dissenting voices and avoiding accountability because they have secrets to hide.

He said: “A Season of Lies, Wayo, Deceit, Propaganda and the more you Look………..

“If those in power are confident in their integrity, they should embrace scrutiny and protest, not suppress it. But when they resort to silencing dissenting voices and avoiding accountability, it’s clear they have secrets to hide. The ‘skeletons/cemeteries in their cupboard’ are a testament to their corruption and abuse of power.

“In a true democracy, governments must be transparent and answerable to the people. They should welcome criticism and engage in open dialogue, even when it’s uncomfortable. By doing so, they can earn trust and demonstrate their commitment to serving the public interest. But when they try to hide behind secrecy and intimidation, it’s a clear sign of guilt and a betrayal of the people’s trust.

“Nigerian youths don’t ever back down. If dem no fear us, dey can never respect us.

Nonsense. Dia fathers.”
