Sturridge identifies tactical error Pochettino made during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Man City.

Former Chelsea attacker Daniel Sturridge believes manager Mauricio Pochettino made a tactical error in the closing stages of his team’s Premier League 1-1 draw with Manchester City over the weekend.

Recall that goals from Raheem Sterling and Rodri ensured both Chelsea and Man City got a point each at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola’s side enjoyed much of the possession on Saturday night but that suited the Blues very nicely as they constantly created problems on the counter-attack.

However, Pochettino decided to sub off Cole Palmer for centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, having earlier taken Sterling off for Christopher Nkunku in the second half.

But Sturridge believes Pochettino should have stuck with his counter-attacking tactic by not subbing the likes of Sterling and Palmer.

“See for me, things are going nice, counter attacks, chops and changes, combinations, all these types of things…,” Sturridge said on Sky Sports.

I’m thinking as the attacker we can get more chances. They didn’t have a shot after 70 minutes. They had gone to five at the back.

“They were so threatening in the second-half with Jackson still doing his thing and the two most threatening players [Sterling and Palmer] came off the pitch”.
