The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, yesterday said the country would overcome the challenges bedeviling it this year if the necessary things are put in place.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said the nation’s challenges are surmountable “but we need to approach them with unity of purpose, focus and single-mindedness.”

He explained that by working collectively in the New Year, “we will be able to right the wrongs of the past and ensure renewed economic, social and political development of our dear country.”

Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has urged Nigerians to be resilient in the face of the current hardship in the country, saying 2017 will bring succour to their sufferings.

In a New Year message to Nigerians through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, the speaker assured that some positive results of the new policies and initiatives of the present government will begin to manifest leading to an improved quality of life for the citizens.

Similarly, Deputy Speaker, Yussuf Sulaimon Lasun, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Wole Oladimeji, has enjoined Nigerians to remain committed and hopeful in the ruling All Progressives Congress.

In the same vein, immediate past Senate President, Senator David Mark yesterday proffered solutions to the economic recession facing the country.

Mark in his New Year message signed by his media assistant, Paul Mumeh, reiterated the need to diversify the economy and place priority on agriculture and manufacturing because “no nation ever survives or develops relying on a mono product for its economy.”
