The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stated that it recorded 4,005 deaths in 7,657 crashes so far on Nigerian roads at the end of week 47 of 2016.

This disclosure was made by the Corps marshal of the FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, on Friday at the 2016 end of the year management strategy session held in Abuja,

The Corps Marshal also explained that with the record, there was a reduction – with the target for 15 percent reduction in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) and 25 percent in fatality rate are on course.

The FRSC boss also revealed that in the year under review, 70 personnel of the Corps lost their lives, noting that “it is sad to note that some killing and maiming of operatives, including one from a sister agencies in close collaboration with Corps, were in the course of official duties.

“A recent occurrence was the happening in Talata Mafara, Zamfara state where a motorist ran into the Mobile court in session, killing three operatives almost instantly while a Civil Defence operative died later as a result of injuries sustained in the dasterdly act.”

While on the disciplinary aspect, Dr Oyeyemi said 99 personnel were sanctioned, 66 (10 officers and 56 marshals) appointments terminated and 33 (15 officers and 18 marshals) had their ranks reduced/lost seniority.
