Doctors End 68-Day-Old Strike In Ondo State
on: August 09, 2016, 05:34:37 PM

The doctors under the aegis of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Ondo State Chapter on Tuesday suspended its 68-day-old strike.

The industrial action, which was embarked on after the state government failed to pay its members their five months salaries, was communicated, in a communiqué, issued by its Chairman, who is also the State Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Dolani Gbelela and Secretary, Ismaila Busari.

The communiqué also said that members decided to suspend the strike following an appeal from their Medical Elders and the public sympathy.

Busari also said it agreed with the government representatives that a month salary will be paid within the next two weeks.

The statement reads: “That the five months’ salary arrears should be paid on or before October 31, 2016.

“That the Ondo state government should pay at least a month salary every month.
“That the elders of NMA appealed to members of NAGGMDP to suspend the above withdrawal of services based on trust and compassionate grounds.”

Medical personnel in the state had in May, 2016 withdrawn their services in all government hospitals in the state, due to the inability of the state government to pay their five months’ outstanding salaries.
