Mobolaji Johnson (retd.), the first Military Governor of Lagos State. Funmi Johnson died on Saturday at the age of 76 after a brief illness. The governor, in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, described late Funmi as an epitome of humility and uprightness. Ambode said when her husband was the military governor, Funmi did not let her husband’s position get into her head, choosing instead to maintain a simple way of life. He said, “She was a virtuous woman. As wife of the military governor, she still went about her normal duties. She was seen in the markets; she related with her colleagues at the Yaba College of Technology and the Federal Training Centre, as well as her personal friends just as she used to before her husband became the governor. That, for me, is the height of humility.” While praying for the peaceful repose of her soul, he urged her husband, Mobolaji, to take solace in the fact that his wife had gone to a better place and draw strength from the fruitful years they shared together. Ambode, who visited the Lagos residence of the Johnsons in company with his wife, Bolanle, and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, commiserated with the children and relatives of the deceased
