Edo 2016: Aregbesola, Tambuwal meet Oshiomhole
on: June 03, 2016, 07:06:01 AM

Three state governors of the All Progressives Congress have met with the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, ahead of the June 18, 2016 governorship primary in the state.

The governors that met with Oshiomhole were Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Simon Lalung (Plateau).

It was learnt that the meeting, which was held on Wednesday, was aimed at mobilising support for the APC in the September 10 governorship election, while the South-South rally of the party is expected to hold at the Government House on Friday (today).

Speaking during an interview with journalists on Thursday in Benin, Aregbesola disclosed that the party had been positioned to defeat the opposition at the polls.

Aregbesola said, “The summary of the meeting is that we are confident that our party is properly positioned to defeat, once again, any opposition or political opponent in the forthcoming election. We are confident and sure of victory; we believe God will support us and we want to assure the people of Edo that our hallmark, which is development in its totality, will continue.”

The reassurance by Aregbesola came on the heels of the vow by some PDP governors in the South-South, who claimed the opposition party was ready to take over power from the APC.

Aregbesola said, “Election period is a period of bragging. So, we accept their boast. But we want them to know that, as usual, they will be defeated. If at the highest height of their might, we defeated them, I don’t see why their bragging should be of any concern.

“We are sure that our party is as strong as ever; we will deliver and return our candidate once that process is concluded.”

The governor said that the call to politically restructure the country was a sign of a virile democracy, adding that the leadership provided by the APC at the national and state levels would stabilise the country.

“Nigeria will emerge a victorious and strong African nation as the processes evolve. We have no doubt in our mind that the leadership that our party is giving at the federal level, which we are replicating in the 23 states we control, will stabilise our nation. Our nation will come out stronger at the end of the day,” Aregbesola said.

He also said that the country would survive the current crisis in the Niger Delta and North-East.

“We have had worse threats to the Nigerian statehood. If we survived those threats, we are going to survive these ones,” he added.
