on: February 12, 2023, 02:55:42 PM

A fuel tanker has exploded in Ilorin, a development that come across as extremely shocking.

While filling up at a gas station in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Saturday evening, the tanker exploded, causing a major fire disaster.

In the state's Ilorin East Local Government Area, the incident took place around 22:05 at the M.M. Rodiat Nigeria Ltd. filling station near the Sobi Specialist Hospital Road-Ayegbami junction.

Despite the fact that the fire did not kill anyone, it destroyed property worth more than N50 million.

The governor's Special Adviser on Strategy, Saadu Salahu, whose private residence is behind the burning fuel station, noted that the fire would have caused unimaginable damage had it not been for the prompt intervention of the government, neighbors, brave firefighters, and security agencies.

Governor Abdul Rahman Abdulrazaq later made an on-the-spot assessment of the situation when he went to the fire disaster scene around 11:45 p.m. He offered his sympathies to the victims and locals.

According to Hassan Adekunle, the state fire service's spokesman, men from the Kwara State Fire Service were summoned to a fire incident by Mr. Kamaldeen around 8:05 p.m. on Sunday in Ilorin.

“Due to the terrible nature of the incident, the blazing fire had engulfed the entire tanker when the Brigade arrived at the scene.

Nevertheless, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire promptly and prevent the burning tanker from affecting nearby filling stations and buildings.

The spokesperson added, "Most importantly, no lives were lost in the accident."

He stated, "The accident was caused due to the mechanical problem in the petrol tanker," and that a "report says."

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, urged people to be more careful and told filling stations to get all the necessary safety gear at their stations.
