The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has banished agents of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) from giving security assurance to Very Important Persons (VIPs).

The police boss likewise requesting that they quit leading 'stop-and-hunt on streets, contribution in common issues including land question, individual debate, obligation accumulation and other common issues.

He included that all agents of the counter burglary unit of his association should from this time forward dependably show up in official unit plainly set apart for recognizable proof.

The police boss, who said this amid a gathering with SARS commandants at the Force Headquarters, Abuja on Friday, included that the Nigeria Police Force under his administration was stressed by the uproar by a few Nigerians that the unit be rejected.

As per him, they are just permitted to lead stop-and-hunt operation on streets when important.

He included that such operation must be with the consent of Commissioner of SARS or Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of Police accountable for operations in the charges they are responsible to.

Any operation led by the agents, as per the police manager, must be in a "non-prejudicial, corresponding, reasonable and responsible way."

The measures, he stated, were because of the police organization's reaction to the desires and requests of current policing.

"In exhibition of good confidence to the desire of the Nigerian masses, I have offered order to the IGP's Monitoring Units and 'X' Squad and other oversight units of the Force to screen the exercises of the SARS agents, while in a similar vein, natives are urged to profit the police approaches to enhance SARS operations the country over," he included.
