The Federal Government has set up a technical committee to provide solutions to impediments to business and investment in the country.

The committee, which was set up by the Ministers of Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Trade and Investment on Friday in Abuja, was expected to also resolve among others, visa and immigration issues that hinder foreign direct investment.

Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.) who hosted his colleagues, Geoffrey Onyeama (Foreign Affairs) and Okechukwu Enelamah (Trade and investment), explained that the government was concerned about easing the process of doing business in the country.

He said part of the strategy was to immediately convene a committee that will look at all the processes with a view to refining them for local and foreign investors to come in and do business.

Dambazau said, “Government will look at all the issues on how the process can be refined in a way that government can deliver the best services that Nigerians and foreigners want and of course investors need secure environment and we are tackling this to encourage foreign investors to come into the country to invest in a good environment.

“The three ministries have major roles to play for ease of doing business in Nigeria. The idea was to deliver the services foreigners and Nigerians need and to provide conducive environment for doing business in the areas of passport and visa issuance and security.

“It’s our responsibility to raise that confidence to encourage people to invest in Nigeria. I’m sure with the way we have started, quite a lot will be achieved at the end of the day.”

Onyeama said the foreign affairs ministry was determined to provide Nigerians and foreigners the best of service in all its missions, noting that his ministry was aware of the complaints about the consular services at the nation’s foreign missions.

“We are aware of complaints about the consular services at our foreign missions and we are determined to provide the best service hence the decision of the three ministries to come together and respond systematically to issues,” the minister explained, adding that the government would not condone unethical practices among the mission workers.

Enelamah stated that the government had resolved to provide an enabling environment for business to thrive, but this he noted, could only be achieved through coordination and synergy by the three ministries.
