Posted by: Yakub Oloyede« on: January 17, 2021, 06:58:52 AM »An inferno resulting from a suspected power surge on Saturday, Jan 16, destroyed 12 shops at Ijesha area of Surulere in Lagos The Acting Head, Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, made the disclosure while responding to inquiries about the incident, which occurred around 6.30pm. “A distress call was received from 1, Market Road, Ijesha Street, Surulere, at about 18:31hrs today. Isolo and Bolade Fire Stations were promptly detailed to rescue the situation and they completely put out the fire at the incident scene," Adeseye said. She further explained that on arrival at the location, the firefighters discovered that the 12 shops, which were attached to a residential building, had been severely burnt. While disclosing that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire, Mrs. Adeseye stated that no injury nor death was recorded and the fire was completely extinguished around 21:03hrs. She urged Lagosians to remain cautious with the use of electrical gadgets and ensure qualified electrical engineers are engaged to fix faults to forestall such occurrences in future.
