The abductors have demanded N5 million as ransom for his release, Vanguard reports. The victim, Ogbobe Stephen, from Ukpabi Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani LGA, had gone home in company of six others for a town hall meeting in the community. He was kidnapped on his way back to Nsukka after the meeting. The herdsmen reportedly flagged down the car conveying the six men, ordered them to lie face down, tied some of the captives’ hands and legs, before dragging the auditor into the bush. Mrs Ogbobe, wife of the victim, told Vanguard that she was informed of the kidnap of her husband by one of the people that travelled to the village with him. She confirmed the N5 million demand as ransom for his release, adding that the family was yet to report the incident to the police for fear that such may infuriate the abductors and jeopardize the well-being of the civil servant. A combined team of policemen, it was gathered, had combed the forest without any fruitful result. Transition committee chairman, Uzo-Uwani LGA, Mr Cornell Onwubuya disclosed that the council pays about 30 vigilantes to assist police beef up security along the road but that the intervention had done little to stop the criminals.
