Men of the Abia State Police Command have smashed a child trafficking syndicate and rescued three victims in the state.

The arrested suspects are Chidubem Nwachukwu, (aka) Isaac, Florence Nwokocha, Chukwunonye Emerenini and Onyekwere Okeiyi.

It was learnt that the suspects were arrested following an alarm raised by one of their victims, who was lured from Aba to Umuahia, the state capital, by one of the suspects.

It was also gathered that one of the suspects had promised to marry and take care of the victim that was lured to Umuahia.

The victim, who was said to be begging for alms at a motor park in Aba with her two children aged six months and two years, reportedly followed her lover to Umuahia, where she was reportedly taken to a beauty salon to fix her hair on arrival.

It was gathered that one of the suspects (Nwachukwu) arranged with members of her gang and took the children away from the victim while she was away.

Sensing that her children had been stolen, the victim contacted the police, who swang into action immediately and arrested one of the suspects.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ezekiel Udeviotu, who confirmed the incident, said the victim’s statement led to the arrest of members of the gang, including a female amputee who claimed to be a social welfare staff attached to Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Udeviotu added that the suspects made revelations that led to the rescue of the two children of the complainant and one other child who was stolen from the parents at Umudem, Ikeduru in Imo state.

The police spokesman said security agents were on the trail of other members of the gang with a view to rescuing more victims and ensuring that the perpetrators of the inhuman act were brought to justice
