The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has apologised for the blackout being experienced in some parts of its coverage areas.

The affected areas are Lekki, Ajah, Victoria Island and Ikoyi.

The company blamed the blackout on the rains, which have resulted in an unprecedented flood on roads and homes on the island.

In a brief statement sent to its customers early Sunday, EKEDC said some of its own offices too have been flooded.

“Dear Customer, we apologise for the electricity outage you are experiencing. This is a safety measure due to the current floods experienced at some of our stations,” the company said.

Many areas have not had electricity for five days since the rains began falling almost ceaselessly since last week.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday declared Ahmadu Bello Way a forbidden zone due to flood in the area.

It was also gathered that the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), which operates from the area, has shut its offices.
