The NDLEA Director- General, Mrs. Roli Bode-George, who lamented drug abuse and trafficking among youths, said parents needed to join hands with the agency in the campaign against illicit drugs. Bode-George spoke in Lagos State on Wednesday during a walk against drug abuse and trafficking. The walk, which aimed at creating awareness on the dangers of narcotics, was part of the activities to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which would hold on June 26. She said, “The agency seeks to increase the level of awareness concerning drug abuse and trafficking. There are people who have drug abuse challenges but do not know how to get solutions. Some of these people have died while others are confined to psychiatric hospitals. Parents can help to save a life from illicit drug use today if only they can listen more and seek help for children before and when they get hooked on illicit drugs.” Speaking on the theme of the World Drug Day, tagged, “Listen First,” the DG urged parents and guardians not to be provoked by the involvement of their loved ones in drug abuse. She appealed that drug addicts should be given attention and counselled accordingly.
