The Nigeria Medical Association has warned the Osun State Government against scuttling its emergency meeting scheduled to hold on Thursday, February 11, on the ongoing doctors’ strike in the state.
The Chairman of the NMA in the state, Dr. Suraj Ogunyemi, gave this warning in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday night.
He said, ” You remember what happened in Imo State?  We were told  that the state government is doing everything to scuttle our Thursday  meeting. They should not try it. They should just wait for us to decide on the issue and bear with whatever our outcome is.”

Ogunyemi had earlier said the doctors might suspend the over four months old strike provided the government paid them October and November salaries which were stopped.
It will be recalled that the doctors had on September 28th 2015 declared an indefinite action following the payment of half salaries to them by the state government.
The state government gave the doctors two separate deadlines to end their strike or consider themselves sacked but the doctors were not bothered.
The state government had also advertised their positions but the NMA warned doctors against  applying  for the jobs and threatened to frustrate any effort to bring in foreign doctors to replace the striking doctors.
