Organized Labour has announced that on Monday there will be no more NLC strike over the rise in petrol and electricity tariff rates.

The suspension was contained in a communiqué signed jointly by labor leaders and members of the Federal Government and read by Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Jobs, at the end of the nearly seven-hour meeting.

The parties decided to set up a Technical Committee, consisting of ministries , departments, agencies, NLC and TUC, to operate for a duration of two weeks, effective Monday, 28 September.

The Committee will study the reasoning for the new regulation, the implementation of meters, the obstacles and the timetable for the large rollout. The membership of the Technical Committee shall be as follows: Mr. Festus Keyamo(SAN), Chairman of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment; Mr. Godwin Jedy-Agba, Member of the Minister of State Power; Prof. James Momoh, Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Engr. Some are. Mr. President for Infrastructure, Ahmad Rufai Zakari, SA; Member / Secretary, Dr. Onoho Omhen Ebhohimhen, Member (NLC); Comrade Joe Ajaero, Member (NLC); Comrade Chris Okonkwo, Member (TUC) and Representative of DISCOs, Member.

'The terms of reference (ToR) are as follows: to analyze the reasoning for the current policy on cost-reflective changes to the electricity tariff.

The committee would "look at the various electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) and their different electricity tariffs vis-à - vis the order and mandate of the NERC," according to the statement.

Examine and advise the government on the issues which have delayed the six million meter deployment.

To look at the NERC Act under review in order to extend its representation to include organized labor.

Within two weeks, the Technical sub-committee shall submit its report.

The DISCOs shall postpone the implementation of cost-reflective electricity tariff changes for a period of two weeks.

The meeting also agreed that the following topics of Labour concern should be regarded as stand-alone objects.

The 40% government interest in DISCO and the stake of workers to be represented in the composition of the boards of DISCOs.

An all-inclusive and impartial review of the activities of the power sector, as set out in the privatisation MOU, to be carried out before the end of 2020, with Labor represented.

"In the future, before the end of 2020, the moribund National Labor Advisory Council (NLAC) will be inaugurated to institutionalize the tripartite and social consultation mechanism on socio-economic and major labor problems in order to avoid the crisis."
