The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has challenged the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to explain how an associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, Col. Jaffar Isa (retd.), was released after being quizzed over his involvement in the alleged $2.1bn arms deal.

The party said the claims by the EFCC that the former military administrator of Kaduna State was released after repaying N100m out of the money collected from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, were concocted to cover up.

The PDP, in a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, maintained that the anti-corruption war was suffering from credibility problem, because it was obviously targeted against only members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The party accused the Federal Government of deliberately deceiving the whole world with the drama of the arrest, release and refund of money Isa allegedly collected from Dasuki.

“The whole thing was like a drama from Nollywood, where you can see the end of a film from the beginning. The arrest, purported refund of N100m by Isa and his eventual release was a charade taken too far.

“The EFCC and the Federal Government should explain to the world what the money collected by Isa was meant for, as was done to other cases since the beginning of the indiscriminate arrest and perpetual detention of the PDP members in the same category,” Adebayo said.
