A 23-year-old mechanic, Paul Dosu, has been brought before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for allegedly selling his customer’s tricycle and converting the proceeds to personal use.

It was gathered that the complainant, John Igwebuke, had given the tricycle to Dosu, who had a shop in the Sura area of Lagos Island, to repair.

Two days after the tricycle was repaired, it reportedly developed the same fault, forcing Igbwebuke to return it to the mechanic.

When the problem persisted, the owner was said to have asked Dosu to sell it for N150,000.

After selling the tricycle, the mechanic reportedly fled with the money.

Igwebuke was said to have reported the matter to the police and Dosu was arrested.

He was subsequently arraigned by a police prosecutor, Inspector Philip Osijale, on one count of obtaining under false pretences.

The charge read, “That you, Paul Dosu, sometime in the year 2014, at Sura junction, Lagos Island, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully sell one Bajaj tricycle worth about N300, 000, belonging to John Igwebuke and converted the money to your own use, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, while the case was adjourned till May 11, 2016.
