The Anambra State Police Command says its operatives rescued two victims of a collapsed building at Ekeoyibo Market, Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated this in a statement on Thursday in Awka.

Ikenga explained that the Command received a distress call about the incident at the market, near the Command’s headquarters.

According to him, the police responded swiftly and have taken the injured people to an undisclosed hospital for immediate medical treatment.

The statement further stated that on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Nnaghe Itam, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, led operatives to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

It added that the area had been cordoned off, while rescue operations were still ongoing.
