According to a report by SaharaReporters, the allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari is appointing only persons from the northern region of the country into key agencies of government has further been strengthened as he named Senator Basheer Mohammed as the new Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Garba Shehu, Presidential spokesman, announced the new appointment in a statement on Thursday.
This comes a few hours after Buhari appointed Zamfara-born Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.
According to Shehu, the President also approved some key changes under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
The Presidential spokesperson said the action was taken in order to realise and sustain government’s abiding desire for effective and efficient service delivery in the two organisations.
The statement said Mrs Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim who was until now the Director General of NAPTIP will now take over from Mohammed as the Honourable Federal Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
Shehu added that the President further directed that the changes should be effected after comprehensive handover notes to successors.
