Rep. Jonathan Gaza, PDP member representing Kokona/Keffi/Karu Federal Constituency, Nasarawa State, has distributed free fertiliser to farmers in his constituency, to boost food production.

Gaza, flagging off the distribution on Wednesday in Kokona, urged the farmers to use the commodity to boost food production and improve the socioeconomic development of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 600 farmers in the constituency went home with bags of fertiliser during the exercise.

According to the lawmaker, no society can live comfortably without agriculture.

“Agriculture is the major source of livelihood of every family and nation, and its importance cannot be overemphasised in the development of any society.

“Agriculture will not only reduce overdependence on oil, but will also fight youth restiveness, unemployment and other social vices in the society, hence the need for the gesture,” Gaza said.

The parliamentarian urged the farmers and people of his constituency to continue to support him and the party, to enable them to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

He urged Nigerians to pray for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria, stressing that no nation would achieve any meaningful progress without peace.

Earlier, Mr. Yunana Iliya, former PDP Chairman in the state, commended the lawmaker for the gesture and called for its sustenance.

He advised other political office holders in the state to emulate the gesture of the lawmaker.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Magaji Alade, who responded on their behalf, thanked the lawmaker for the support.

He said the commodity would be used for the purpose for which it was meant.
