The Rivers State Police Command says it has foiled an attempt by militants to blow up an oil pipeline in the state.
This was contained in a statement obtained by DAILY POST and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni.

Omoni noted that the police recently intensified its fight against cultism and other violent activities in the state.

He disclosed that the Explosive Ordinance Department of the police on Thursday, last week, foiled an attempt to blow up an oil facility belonging to Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, pipeline in Rumuche community in Emohual Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He said the explosive was produced with a large mass of dynamite and other dangerous accessories.

The police spokesman, however, said the explosive had been deactivated and evacuated, adding that the state was no longer safe for criminals.

According to the statement, “The Rivers State Police Command has continued to record outstanding successes in crime fighting across the length and breadth of the state.

“This was brought to the fore, when on the 7th day of July, 2016, about 0600hrs the Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) Team acting on a tip-off proceeded to Rumuche Emohua and recovered Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed to blow off the LNG pipeline.

“The IED was said to have been fabricated with a large Mass of Dynamite and other accessories. Meanwhile the IED has been rendered safe and has been evacuated.”

Omoni also disclosed that the police had arrested a suspected kidnapper, one Chimenem, who allegedly killed about three policemen, including one ASP Ofomah Daniel at Rumuolumeni community in Obio/Akpor LGA, last week.
