The incident was confirmed to have occurred on Friday night. It was also discovered that the number of people in the truck was not identified. On Saturday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency reported the incident. Nosa Okunbor, Head of Public Relations of LASEMA, said that search and rescue operations are ongoing. He said, "On arrival at the scene of the incident, a six-tyre truck loaded with sand was discovered to have sunk into the water." At present, the number of people in the truck can't be determined. A joint team of Organization Responders, the Underwater Rescue Unit, the Nigeria Police and local divers have been performing search and rescue operations since the early hours of today. "No reported deaths or injuries yet."
