Lagos dep gov urges dedication to education
on: January 11, 2016, 06:16:11 AM

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Idiat Adebule, has called on principals, teachers and others in the academic community to rededicate themselves to the ethics of the teaching profession and make education interesting for pupils.

Adebule, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Education, said commitment and passion were necessary for the implementation of government’s investment in education.

The deputy governor said this in a statement on Sunday to herald the resumption of the second term of the 2015/2016 academic session for public schools in the state.

“We have the unique responsibility to be the prime change agents our dear state needs, to become a better place to live and work in.

“All what we need is to rededicate ourselves to the ethics of the profession and make education interesting and inspiring again.

“I urge you to encourage hard work, ethical conducts and moral values wherever you are and whenever it is required,’’ she said.

While commending school administrators for helping the government to implement its policies in the classrooms, she appealed to them to turn out products that were not only morally certified, but academically competent to hold public offices in the future.

“As I welcome you back to school, we need to walk together to our destination, which is to be an excellent model for education in Nigeria and the whole of Africa.

“This can only be achieved when all stakeholders rededicate themselves and take ownership of government’s vision in the overall interest of the pupils,” she added.

Adebule reaffirmed government’s commitment to quality education through the implementation of sustainable programmes, adding that priority would be given to teachers’ welfare to encourage them to continue to give their best.
