It was learnt that the officials accompanied by soldiers broke into some shops in the area, searching for smuggled rice. A source told Punch that the customs officers during the operation shot continuously into the air to scare away hoodlums, who mobilised against the action. He said, “The customs operatives got information that there was smuggled rice in some shops in the area. They went with soldiers to break into the shops. They started shooting continuously to scare away some people who mobilised against them and in the process two people were hit.” A facebook user, Goodhope Arise, also confirmed the raid calling on Customs boss, Hameed Ali to conduct investigations into the matter and save the masses in the area. He wrote “Col. Hammed Ali must Hear this. Two killed & several innocent victims wounded as men of customs service conducted house raiding @ Oja-Odan today. “We implore the Controller General to quickly conduct investigation into this matter and stop further, this ignoble act as this affects the lives of ordinary people. “Many big fishes were left untouched while only the general public who are struggling to make ends meet were made to pay for their sins. Please saves our soul.” The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs, Abdulahi Maiwada, when contacted said investigation into the matter is still ongoing. “The matter is still under investigation. I may not be able to comment until I get the details of the incident,” he said.
