Speaking in Yola yesterday, a retired police officer in charge of the association’s security in Adamawa, Garba Tarfa, stated that several hunters were “eager and waiting” for the go-ahead to overrun Sambisa forest and capture Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, alive, if given the permission. He said, “We are ever physically ready at any given time if permitted to besiege Sambisa forest to capture the coward, Shekau, like fowl and his dreaded commanders. “We know the nooks and crannies of Sambisa forest. In fact we know exactly where Shekau is hiding in the forest. “They fear us more than conventional army, because they know we knew their secrets.” Tarfa disclosed that Boko Haram leader, Shekau was hiding in Sambisa at a heavily-guarded location codenamed “Parisa”, surrounded by his commanders. He stated that his members, working with the Army, had, in the past three months, intensified attacks on suburbs of Sambisa forest and rescued over 500 women and children. The hunters’ leader said during the attacks, about 50 Boko Haram members were killed, injured or arrested and handed over to security forces. Tarfa pointed out that the insurgency would end if the government worked more closely with hunters, disclosing that his group would need logistical support and patrol vehicles. DAILY POST recalls that in September 2014, over 10,000 hunters as well as members of the Nigerian legion, under the auspices of civilian JTF, stormed the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Kyari Umar Ibn Garbai Al’amin El-kanemi to receive his blessings as they set to join the military to take over Sambisa forest. They resolved to go into the Sambisa and other terrorists’ hideouts to hunt Boko Haram sect and bring an end to the ongoing crisis. Also in that year, some residents of Borno state appealed to the state government to enlist the services of local hunters and vigilantes in liberating towns captured by the Boko Haram insurgents. They stressed that the state must emulate neigbouring Adamawa by allowing hunters and members of the vigilance groups in the state to assist in arresting the Boko Haram menace. . Meanwhile, Tarfa accused the authorities of paying more attention to the missing Chibok girls, than other women and children abducted by the terror sect.
