Posted by: Supervisor« on: July 09, 2016, 09:44:59 PM »![]() The on-going trial of the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, alongside Senate President Bukola Saraki sparked protest in Enugu State on Saturday. We reports that thousands of residents took to the streets at Awgu, in Enugu West Senatorial Zone, demanding an end to “persecution of their son.” The protest, witnessed a mammoth crowd from many parts of the State, who headed straight to the constituency office of Hon. Toby Okechukwu representing Awgu/Aninri Federal Constituency. Some of their placards displaced by the protesters read: “Enough is Enough; Life Wire of Igbo race should not be harassed; Presidency leave the Senate Alone; Our Son, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu and Senate Leadership Are on Course; Buhari, APC, let Ikeoha be”. After a meeting with the Federal Lawmaker, they came up with a communique, where they vowed to resist any attempt to remove Ekweremadu from his current position. The communique was read by Prof. Sam Ukpabi, the traditional ruler of Ekoli Okpanku, former SSG Enugu State as well as former Provost, Nigeria Defence Academy. It read: “We, the people of Enugu-West Senatorial District of Enugu State, in a massively attended stakeholders rally in Awgu, headquarters of Enugu- West Senatorial District, today, July 9, 2016, reviewed the state of the nation, especially the politics of bitterness, nepotism, hate and crushing economic hardship, which a narrow cabal in the All Progressive Congress (APC), has unleashed on Nigerians since assuming the reins of power at the center.
