We shall defeat Sylva at tribunal, says PDP
on: January 13, 2016, 06:44:10 AM

The Peoples Democratic Party, Bayelsa State, has boasted that it will still defeat the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, at the tribunal if he decides to contest the outcome of the Saturday’s poll won by its candidate, Governor Seriake Dickson.

The PDP, which said its candidate won the election fair and square, said that Sylva had no case.

Sylva had on Monday at a news conference rejected the results of the election and declared that he would be heading for the court to contest it.

The PDP, in a statement on Tuesday by the Director of Publicity, Dickson’s campaign organisation, the Restoration Campaign Organisation, Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, said the election was already won and lost.

He described the victory of Dickson as a product of “overwhelming support and voting trend in favour of the PDP” by voters across the state.

While stressing that Dickson won with valid votes cast, Obuebite said the popularity of the PDP and the track record of performance of the governor were reasons Bayelsans re-elected him for another four-year term.

He noted that the result had shown that Bayelsa State “is a stronghold of the PDP,” adding that the APC would always find it difficult to win election in the state.

He admonished Sylva and the APC to team up with Dickson to move the state forward, instead of going to court as doing so would amount to an “effort in futility”.

Obuebite stated that in spite of what his supporters might say, the APC candidate did not “feel really bad” about the outcome of the election, saying that “Sylva went to a night club to enjoy himself after the results were declared.”

The development, he said, did not suggest that Sylva was “terribly affected,” adding that his action suggested instead that he was not expecting to win, after all.

Obuebite said, “Sylva, after losing the election, went to a night club to enjoy himself with friends. He went to three clubs on Sunday. How can a man who just lost an election attend a club if he was expecting to win?”

In a related development, a political and environmental activist, Bernard Mikko, has applauded the results of the governorship election.

Mikko, who is the National Coordinator of Legacy Group, comprising former National Assembly members, said the stand taken by the people of the state had shown that there was hope for democracy in the state and the South-South ge0-political zone.

The former member of the House of Representatives also noted that if the pendulum had swung in favour of the APC, it would have had a negative effect on the psyche of the people of the state and geo-political zone.
