He lives a completely sustainable lifestyle by eating his own crops and animal produce and harvesting solar power for energy. “Congratulations,” Calvin says to Dave, “you’re finally cooler than a Black dude.” Wyatt has a rooster named Beaker who quickly becomes an issue for everyone, since he stays up crowing all night, disrupting the nighttime routines of Calvin, Tina, and Dave (Gemma sleeps through it — must be all that farm experience.) Exhausted, Calvin and Dave try to appeal to an obviously unreceptive Wyatt, and when that fails they plot to jack the rooster from the garden and frame a coyote for the crime. This plan goes ahead, though neither of them wants to kill it (except Gemma, again thanks to that farm experience, but neither Calvin nor Dave will let her.) Instead, they decide to drive it out into the country and leave it at a real farm. Of course, on the way, they both have a change of heart and end up returning the bird to Wyatt. Whether or not he sticks around as a recurring character is anyone’s guess. The B-plot of “Welcome to the Rooster” concerns the youngest Butler, Marty, still getting Tina to do his washing. This, apparently, is because his apartment doesn’t have a washing machine, but when she visits for a nap after being kept up all night by Beaker, Tina discovers that Marty has a perfectly functional washer and dryer. Marty’s sweet justification for the deception is that he wants the excuse to see his family since he misses them. There are easier ways, and honesty is always the best policy, but at least he learns an important lesson about how to get red wine out of a signed Star Trek shirt. This recap of The Neighborhood season 3, episode 4, “Welcome to the Rooster”, contains spoilers. We recapped every episode — check out the episodes tag.
