The biggest celebrity football fan showdown lived up to its
promise as some of the biggest names in the Nigerian
entertainment industry treated fans to exciting football fan
duels. 9ice, Reminisce, Timi Dakolo, Frank Edoho, Fred Amata,
Illbliss, Segun Arinze and ID Cabasa locked horns in the name
of their respective football clubs on an unforgettable night.
The stunning Blue Bar and Pool section of Fourpoints by
Sheraton, Victoria Island Lagos hosted this unique sports and
entertainment showpiece created by beautiful sports OAP-
Kiibati Bankole.
Kiibati, kitted in a refereeing outfit (complete with her yellow,
red cards and whistle) played the role of match referee.
The action kicked off with an exciting clash between Chelsea
fan- 9ice and Arsenal fan- Illbliss. 9ice defeated Illbliss thanks
to verdicts handed out by a panel of judges that included ex-
footballer- Sam Sodje, sports OAPS Biola Kazeem and Mathew
Edafe and comedians- Still Ringing.
9ice and Illbliss participated in tasks that included singing,
dancing, match commentaries and exciting debates.
9ice shocked the audience and judges with his impressive and
broad knowledge of football history and eventually bagged two
awards- The Superfan award and the award for creativity, both
powered by sponsors- Merrybet.
Timi Dakolo and Frank Edoho were next, in what was the
tightest and most fiercely contested match. Frank Edoho, who
is a Chelsea fan, gave Timi Dakolo- an Arsenal fan a run for his
money, as they both showed depth in football knowledge and
extreme passion. Timi Dakolo's breathtaking rendition of the
Arsenal club anthem however, gave him the edge as he defeated
Frank.
Timi eventually also won the Backseat Manager award,
powered by Merrybet, for his outstanding knowledge of football.
Nollywood stars Segun Arinze and Fred Amata locked horns
next for Chelsea and Arsenal respectively, in another evenly
matched duel.
Segun Arinze, not deterred by the defeat his club had suffered
earlier in the day, was quite impressive in his play on words and
overall creativity and defeated Fred Amata.
The final showdown of the night was between Reminisce and ID
Cabasa for Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.
Reminisce provided the moment of the night, when he sang the
Manchester United anthem- 'Glory Glory Man United' in Yoruba
language. The venue erupted in laughter and applause, in
appreciation.
ID Cabasa edged the debates, but Reminisce's creative
performances gave him the edge as he defeated his opponent.
The winning celebrities were awarded match trophies and
prizes from SLOT and Merrybet.
It was a night the fans and celebrities will not forget in a hurry,
as they were treated to musical and comedy performances and
great fun all round.
