The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has suspended its protracted strike action.

“We have suspended the strike and lectures will resume on Monday. But the detail will be stated in our press statement which will be issued very soon,” the ASUU Chairman in the university, Dr Biodun Olaniran, told The Punch in Osogbo on Tuesday.

With this, students of the institution will now return to their classrooms on Monday for the first time in six months. The students have not resumed academic activities since April when they concluded their 2016/17 first semester examinations.

This is after workers of LAUTECH had gone on strike on June 2 over poor funding by the two owner states of the university, Oyo and Osun.

In September, the management of LAUTECH had directed the lecturers, workers and the students of the university to resume after over eight months’ forced holiday.

After the directive, the workers’ unions in the university said they were not aware of the resumption of the institution, which was then scheduled for Friday, September 15, and as such would not obey the directive of the university authorities.

However, confirming the development, the Dean of Student Affairs of the university, Lukman Jinadu, told Premium Times that academic activities will resume officially on Monday as the local branch of ASUU called off their strike after a meeting on Tuesday.

“We are resuming officially on Monday,” Mr. Jinadu said.
