Two students of the Federal University of Technology in Akure, Ondo state, drowned on Saturday evening while taking selfie pictures on a canoe inside a river in the town.
According to reports, they were four students on the canoe when it capsized.
The name of the two students who died in the incident were identified as: Olabiyi Emmanuel and Olokun Babatunde, both 300-level students.
President of the institution’s Students Union Government, Adeyinka Olasehinde, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying that the canoe capsized while the students were taking the selfies.

Two FUTA students drown during their Entrepreneurship TrainingOlasehinde disclosed that Olabiyi was a student of the department of Agric and Environmental Engineering, while Olokun was a student of the department of Project Management Technology.
He also disclosed that two of the students narrowly escaped death because they knew how to swim, while two others were unfortunate.
He said the students who lost their lives were at the venue of their entrepreneurial training at the laboratory of the department of fishery and aquaculture behind great hall in Obakekere area of Akure.
