{OAU} has shutdown academic activities indefinitely. According to a circular from the Division of student Affairs (DSA), the management has ordered all students to vacate their hostels with immediate effect from 12 noon on Thursday. The statement which read thus: “All newly admitted students of the university presently going through orientation on campus are hereby ordered to vacate the school premises with immediate effect while resumption of the returning students have been postponed indefinitely. All final year students currently writing their projects on campus are to vacate the school premises till further notice. All the students are expected to vacate the University premises by Thursday 23rd June 2016 by 12 noon.” While it can be recalled that workers of OAU under the aegis of NASU and SSANU have intensified their protest against non-payment of allowances and alleged imposition of a Vice- Chancellor despite the ‘no work’, ‘no pay’ threat by the university’s authorities. The reason for the indefinite close down of scholarly activities, however is not unconnected to the continuous protests by some of its workers who were clearly against the appointment of Professor Ayobami Taofeek Salami as the Vice Chancellor of the institution. This new development has been greeted with tons of disappointment from the students of the Institution, mostly fresh students who believe the Institution decision for a shutdown did not hold much water.
